A HOT WATER DRENCHING SYSTEM FOR DISINFESTING ROOTS AND MEDIA OF POTTED PLANTS OF THE BURROWING NEMATODES

摘要: A hot water drenching system to disinfest potted plants of burrowing nematodes was developed and tested. The unit delivered a continuous stream constant temperature through the potting media roots plants. Tests with various types showed rapid uniform rise in volcanic cinder mixes of lower than 50% peat moss. Burrowing infested palms were eliminated when pots were drenched at 50
C (122
F) for 15 min no adverse effects on plants. In comparison, dipping bath not as effective against nematodes.
