摘要: Microbes have selected primarily carbohydrates for attachment to host animal cells. Recent studies revealed essential characteristics in the recognition of receptor carbohydrates. Of importance is property recognizing also sequences placed inside an oligosaccharide chain, which differs from most antibodies. This basis series isoreceptors with minimum sequence common but separate neighbouring groups. There are families microbial ligands that show different preferences members within one isoreceptors, indicating only slight differences complementary binding sites proteins. Such may explain shifts selectivity tissues infection. A second characteristic low affinity interaction often found where simple receptor-containing saccharides unable inhibit attachment. Technical possibilities rapidly developing design synthetic analogues be used therapy clinical infections. urgently needed cases no rational exists today.
