摘要: Past research has conceptualized secrecy as speech inhibition during social interaction. In contrast, the current broadens understanding of by conceptualizing it commitment to conceal information. Seven experiments demonstrate implications this broader conceptualization for secrecy's consequences. The results that thinking about secrets-relative personal information unknown others is not purposefully concealed (i.e., undisclosed information)-indirectly increases experience fatigue evoking feelings isolation and a motivational conflict with one's affiliation goals. Furthermore, we fatiguing effects have consequences task persistence performance. Integrating theories motivation, fatigue, isolation, offer new directions on secrecy.
