摘要: Publisher Summary Analytical samples can be introduced into an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) as gases, liquids or solids, in routine elemental analysis, most are using a pneumatic nebulizer. Arguably, there three key limitations to nebulization sample introduction. In direct insertion-inductively (DSI-ICP), probe (for example, graphite cup, wire-loop, basket holding pelletized solid) carrying few μl of liquid mg/sub-mg amounts solid is inserted through the central tube modified torch and ICP used for vaporization, atomization, excitation ionization. Some conclusions drawn DSI-ICP-AES equally valid DSI-ICP-MS: effects cup geometry composition, drying charring conditions, carbide formation, temperature plasma, volatilization enhancement mixed-gas plasmas in-situ chemical modification, pre-concentration clean-up slurry sampling, name but few. The chapter concludes by discussing analytical figures-of-merit, analysis powders solids that converted powder slurries listing applications DSI-ICP.
