The Kaapvaal craton seismic anisotropy: Petrophysical analyses of upper mantle kimberlite nodules

摘要: A dense network of seismic stations has been deployed on the Kaapvaal craton (South Africa) to investigate upper mantle structures. In order bring independent petrophysical constraints, we analyze a direct sampling cratonic and determine properties 48 nodules brought up Earth's surface by kimberlite eruptions. Seismic these are calculated from olivine pyroxene crystal preferred orientations single elastic constants. Despite variations in compositions, microstructures crystallographic orientations, anisotropy is rather homogeneous throughout craton. Mean S-wave weak (2.64 %), which compatible with small measured SKS wave splitting (mean delay time 0.62 s).
