摘要: SUMMARY The Kissimmee watershed forms the headwaters of Kissimmee-Okeechobee-Everglades system. encompasses a diverse group wetland and aquatic ecosystems, including more than two dozen lakes, their tributary streams, River. This chapter summarizes mission-critical activities South Florida Water Management District (District or SFWMD) for flood control, water supply, quality, natural systems in Upper Lower Basins watershed. Major projects are River Restoration Project (KRRP), Headwaters Revitalization (KRHRP), Chain Lakes (KCOL) Long-Term Plan (LTMP). A number associated with these ecosystem restoration, restoration evaluation, plant management, land quality improvement, supply planning. were jointly authorized 1992 Resources Development Act. have an estimated combined cost $578 million (Fiscal Year 2004). They will be completed several phases, final phase construction scheduled completion 2012 evaluation to 2017. primary goal KRRP is reestablish ecological integrity river-floodplain system, which defined as, “the capability supporting maintaining balanced, integrated, adaptive community having species composition, diversity, functional organization comparable that habitat region” (Karr Dudley, 1981). requires reconstruction physical form river (i.e., canal backfilling, removal control structures, elimination secondary drainage ditches, levees, roads) reestablishment historic (pre-channelization) hydrologic discharge stage) characteristics. purpose KRHRP provide storage regulation schedule modifications needed approximate historical flow characteristics project increase quantity lake littoral zone lakes Kissimmee, Hatchineha, Tiger, Cypress benefit fish wildlife (USACE, 1996; Section 1.3.2).
