摘要: Background: Providing patients with an audiotape of their medical consultation has been a relatively common practice in oncology clinics for some years. However, broader generalisability the technique yet to be examined. Aims: To investigate efficacy providing general setting. Design study: Randomised controlled trial. 95 experimental participants, 85 controls. Setting. Routine surgeries run by two practitioners (GPs) different health centres. Method: All attending GP appointments were eligible inclusion. Patients followed up telephone 7-10 days later. Results: More than half (61%) who received tape listened it. Among listeners, 64% rated useful or very useful; 24% noticed information not heard consultation. Half listeners (46%) said that understanding improved after listening tape. (48%) shared others, whom 71% found sharing helpful helpful. 21% those others this unhelpful unhelpful, suggesting may need briefed on potential risks At follow-up week later, it emerged being given had no effect adherence GPs' advice, nor anxiety about conditions.
