Quality of life and bariatric surgery: a systematic review of short- and long-term results and comparison with community norms

摘要: Currently the effects of bariatric surgery are generally expressed in excess weight loss or comorbidity reduction. Therefore aim this review was to provide insight available prospective evidence regarding short and long-term on Quality Life (QoL) a comparison with community norms. A systematic multi-database search conducted for 'QoL' 'Bariatric surgery'. Only studies QoL before after were included. The 'Quality Assessment Tool Before-After Studies No Control Group' used assess methodological quality. Thirty-six met inclusion criteria. Most assessed be 'fair' 'good' Ten different questionnaires measure QoL. Follow-up ranged from 6 months 10 years, sample sizes 26 1276 follow-up rates 45 100%. significant increase found all (P⩽0.05), however, mostly these outcomes stay below IWQoL, SF-36 OWQoL show that exceed is increased both long term. However, due heterogeneity generality it hard make distinction between surgeries difficult see relation medical profit. Therefore, tailoring measurements population recommended as focus future studies.
