Adherence to medication for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder: does time frame matter?

摘要: Objectives  Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) medication users frequently take ‘drug holidays’ during the summer months. The study objective was to compare ADHD adherence for school year (SY, 270 days) and entire (EY, 365 by type, class duration of action. Methods  Continuously enrolled Texas Medicaid children (≤18 years) who had two or more prescription claims an served as population. SY (1 September–31 May) EY January–31 December) were extracted from July 2002 December 2008. Key findings  Overall mean (±SD) (n = 50 842) (n = 62 789) time frames 62.2% (±26.2%) 49.8% (±30.3%), respectively. overall frequency patients adherent (medication possession ratio, ≥80%) higher (28.3%) than (22.1%). Regarding immediate-release stimulants (52.8 versus 37.2%), extended-release (63.7 52.1%), pro-drug (63.5 47.6%) non-stimulants (62.9 52.5%) EY, class, (62.1 49.4%) EY. Similarly, regarding action, short-acting agents (52.2 37.2%) long-acting (63.4 52.2%) respectively. Conclusions  Patients compared Due unique patient medication-taking behaviors, differs depending on frame used.
