摘要: Autumn leaf fall represents an important allochthonous organic input to inland, aquatic ecosystems, particularly those situated in mixed hardwood forests. We evaluated factors that influence decomposition wetlands along a strong biogeochemical gradient spanning the ridge and valley region mid-Atlantic United States. Leaf rates were estimated using mesh bags; at same time, algal invertebrate colonization on packs was measured. exhibited exponential decline over 35-day incubation period; similar of previous studies (range 0.15–0.40 per day) not significantly different (one-way ANOVA, F = 0.67, p = 0.526).
