摘要: The potential health and ecological effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals has become a high visibility environmental issue. 1990s have witnessed growing concern, both on the part scientific community public, that may be causing widespread in humans variety fish wildlife species. This concern led Committee Environment Natural Resources (CENR) National Science Technology Council to identify disruptor issue as major research initiative early 1995 subsequently establish an ad hoc Working Group Endocrine Disruptors. objectives working group are 1) develop planning framework for federal related human chemicals; 2) conduct inventory ongoing programs; 3) gaps coordinated interagency plan address priority needs. communication summarizes activities government defining common program assessing status current effort. After developing compiling active projects supported by fiscal year 1996, CENR evaluated effort comparing with needs identified framework. analysis showed supports considerable effects, exposure assessment, predominance activity occurring under effects. also indicates studies reproductive development carcinogenesis more prevalent than neurotoxicity immunotoxicity, mammals (mostly laboratory animals) main species study, chlorinated dibenzodioxins polychlorinated biphenyls most commonly studied chemical classes. Comparison should allow identification underrepresented areas need attention.
