Discrete element modelling of pebble beds: With application to uniaxial compression tests of ceramic breeder pebble beds

摘要: Abstract In this paper, a discrete element simulation scheme for pebble beds in fusion blankets is presented. Each individual considered as one obeying equilibrium conditions under contact forces. We study not only the rearrangement of particles but also overall behaviour an assembly action macroscopic compressive stresses. Using random close packing initial configurations, uniaxial compression test has been quantitatively compared to experiments. This method yields distribution inter-particle Moreover, micro–macro relations have investigated relate microscopic information, such maximum force and coordination number inside assembly, stress variables.
