摘要: Clostridium orbiscindens sp. nov. is an obligate anaerobe that capable of cleaving the C-3-C-4 bond natural anticarcinogen quercetin. The metabolic products, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid and presumably phlorglucinol, are not known to possess properties. This organism was isolated from human feces. On sheep blood agar plates C. forms minute, irregular, convex, gray or white, shiny, smooth, nonhemolytic colonies. It beta-hemolytic on rabbit agar. motile peritrichous rods gram variable. Subpolar spores common. Cultures resistant 80°C for 10 min. Capsules absent. asaccharolytic does metabolize esculin, urea, meat, gelatin, casein, nitrate. G+C content 56 57 mol%. DNA hybridization experiments did reveal relatedness phenotypically similar strains. Strain 265 (= ATCC 49531) type strain.
