Medication adherence in diabetes mellitus and self management practices among type-2 diabetics in Ethiopia.

摘要: Background : Type-2 diabetes mellitus and its complication are becoming more prevalent in Ethiopia. Evidence abound that the most important predictor of reduction morbidity mortality due to is level glycemic control achieved. Aims The aim assess adherence anti diabetic drug therapy self management practice among type-2 patient Patients Method study consists two phases. A cross-sectional review randomly selected 384 case notes attend clinic over 3 month interview, with pre tested monitoring tool questioner 347 consecutive patients Jimma university specialized hospital clinic. Result: Oral hypoglycemic agent were prescribed for 351(91.4) while insulin oral was 33(8.6%). About 312 (88.9%) on mono therapy, frequently glibenclamide 232(74.3%) metformine 80(25.7%). Only 41.8% had adequate control. main external factors non lack finance (37.1%) followed by perceived side effect 29.2%. 6.5% who missed their medications disclosed physician during consultation. knowledge critical component behavior generally low studied. Conclusion: Majority type 2 Ethiopia managed OHA monotherapy mainly glybenclamide metformine. While current prescribing strategy do not achieve majority patient. This poor regimen successful management.
