FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO NON-ADHERENCE TO MEDICATIONAMONG TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS IN PATIENTS ATTENDING TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL IN SOUTH INDIA

摘要: Objective: The aim was to determine the non-adherence medication and assess factors affecting same among Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients in a tertiary care hospital South India. Methods: A cross-sectional study carried out on 150 known DM patients. Eight item Morisky Medication adherence questionnaire used adherence. validated collect information influencing namely age, gender, literacy, duration of diabetes, complications, economic problems, patient awareness about their side-effects, adverse drug reactions advice exercise diet. percentage contributing were analyzed with descriptive statistics Chisquare test using IBM SPSS version 21. Results: More than two-thirds (69.3%) males. overall prevalence therapeutic seen 82 (54.66%). Among non-adherant patients, 16 (17.08%) illiterates. 32 (39.02%) had problems buy prescribed medications, 53 (64.63%) them lack medications seen, 37 (45.12%) not aware side effects medication, 59 (71.95%) what happens missing regularly, 39 (47.56%) able visit physician regularly for consultation, 52 (63.45%) 49 (59.75%) performing following advise diet respectively. Conclusion: Non-adherance is due inadequate knowledge importance management. Therefore, there definite need improve by improving health system education families.
