Awareness and knowledge regarding of cervical cancer, Pap smear screening and human papillomavirus infection in Gabonese women

摘要: Cervical cancer is the commonest and leading cause of mortality in women Gabon. The age-standardized incidence cervical 19.9 per 100 000 rate 8.4 000. Various international studies have identified lack awareness knowledge about as barriers to use preventive methods. This article assesses cancer, Pap smear testing its HPV among living Libreville, study was conducted October 2014 Libreville. A total 452 aged 16 years above were recruited from different town locations. Logistic regression analysis used identify effect demographic characteristics on level HPV. Odds ratio 95% confidence intervals strength association. Associations considered statistically significant at p < 0.05. Of all interviewed, 91.6% (414/452) had heard only 27.9% (126/452) test. these 126 women, 65.1% (82/126) done screening 68.3% (56/82) suggestion a doctor. most common reason for not undergoing neglect (50%, 22/44) followed by financial resources (13.6%, 6/44), fear discovering serious disease 6/44) deeming it unimportant 6/44). Only 8% (40/452) participants their fair. There very poor Gabonese women. demonstrates low sample critical need be informed test improve this method. implication health staff media should included centerpiece effort inform population order reduce burden Gabon save lives.
