Homo‐oligomerization of maleic anhydride in nonpolar solvents: A kinetic study of deviations from nonlinear behavior

摘要: Deviation from nonlinear first order polymerization kinetic models is usually observed for cases where steric effects are dominant. A model was developed the homo-oligomerization of bulky maleic anhydride units. Factors affecting kinetics have also been studied using two different initiators, azoisobutyronitrile (AIBN) and benzoyl peroxide, at 10 mol % concentrations in solvents o-xylene toluene. Maleic polymers having a number average molecular weight by SEC, between 300 900, polydispersity 1.0 2.0 were observed, data justified model. The increased with conversion, dominated higher as decrease magnitude corresponding termination rate constants. values conversion compared experimental cross verification done calculations. present represents an error less than 5% over entire range. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
