T4-Related Bacteriophage LIMEstone Isolates for the Control of Soft Rot on Potato Caused by ‘Dickeya solani’

摘要: The bacterium 'Dickeya solani', an aggressive biovar 3 variant of Dickeya dianthicola, causes rotting and blackleg in potato. To control this pathogen using bacteriophage therapy, we isolated characterized two closely related specific bacteriophages, vB_DsoM_LIMEstone1 vB_DsoM_LIMEstone2. LIMEstone phages have a T4-related genome organization share DNA similarity with Salmonella phage ViI. Microbiological molecular characterization the deemed them suitable promising for use therapy. reduced disease incidence severity on potato tubers laboratory assays. In addition, field trial tubers, when infected experimental treatment resulted higher yield. These results form basis development bacteriophage-based biocontrol plants as alternative antibiotics.
