A new sustainable composite column using an agricultural solid waste as aggregate

摘要: Abstract The agricultural industry is a source of many types solid waste. For instance, oil palm shell (OPS), waste from the and produced in enormous quantities tropical countries. This material considered to be major problem terms pollution, while, on other hand, normal concrete needs large amount raw materials as coarse fine aggregate. Due limitations materials, use aggregate can have negative effect environment. In addition, high self-weight another disadvantage this type for construction structural members. paper presents novel sustainable composite column by using lightweight OPS instead conventional concrete. Composite columns form filled steel tubes (CFTs) are acknowledged highly efficient group with wide usage different structure. study, axial compressive behaviour CFT constructed weight concretes was investigated. new column, 22% total volume replaced test results showed that containing had same ultimate load capacity green about 15% lighter than significantly higher specific energy absorption, efficiency flexibility.
