摘要: In many insect species, fitness trade-offs exist between maximizing body size and developmental speed. Understanding how various species evolve different life history strategies requires knowledge of the physiological mechanisms underlying regulation timing. Here roles juvenile hormone (JH) insulin/target rapamycin (TOR) signaling in final were examined tobacco hornworm, Manduca sexta. Feeding to wild-type larvae decreased growth rate but did not alter peak larvae. contrast, feeding JH-deficient black mutant caused significantly increase relative DMSO-fed control animals by lengthening terminal period. Furthermore, critical weight was unaltered rapamycin, indicating that Manduca, is influenced insulin/TOR signaling. addition, post-critical starved given underwent metamorphosis sooner than those fed, mimicking “bail-out mechanism”. Our study demonstrates JH masks effects determination weights Drosophila rely on distinct reflect strategies. also suggests TOR lengthens period as it does Drosophila, levels determine contributions nutrient- size-sensing pathways metamorphic
