摘要: BACKGROUND: Transamniotic fetal feeding has been proposed as prenatal treatment for intrauterine growth retardation substrates infused into the amniotic cavity are swallowed and absorbed. The rabbit provides an optimal model of in that a consistent weight ratio runt to favored fetus is found at term. METHODS: Thirty growth-retarded fetuses underwent transamniotic catheterization third trimester with incremental infusion either dextrose, dextrose plus amino acids, or bovine fluid. One week later weights were determined. ipsilateral served operated, noninfused control. RESULTS: Fetuses receiving fluid showed significantly increased somatic when analyzed by absolute body versus Increases liver, lung, small intestinal paralleled overall increase weight. No differences acid-infused groups. CONCLUSIONS: amount ingested fluid, "force feeding," appears responsible enhanced because native have only negligible differences. This study first report successful augmentation feeding.
