摘要: Introduction We simultaneously know more about the proximate causes of infanticide in rodents and less its adaptive consequences evolution than any other taxon. Rodents are largest mammalian order with over 440 genera 2021 4629 described species (Musser & Carleton 1993; Wilson Reeder 1993). Infanticide by either or both males females may be found 46 from 22 3 rodent groups (see below). A number previous reviews illustrate detailed understanding causation, development, function gained studying (Sherman 1981; Brooks 1984; Elwood Ostermeyer Huck Labov Svare et al . vom Saal 1985; Trulio 1987; 1992; Kennedy 1994; Ebensperger 1998a). In this review, I take a slightly different approach to study rodents. first use taxonomic distribution along available phylogenetic evidence parsimoniously reconstruct males, females, potential female response – male-induced pregnancy termination (Bruce effects; Bruce 1960). Then, using these evolutionary reconstructions, test specific functional hypotheses infanticide. thumbnail sketch provide some richest information because studies causation integrated designed document ultimate function.
