摘要: A mechanism of persistent luminescence that was proposed in 1996 for SrAl2O4:Eu2+;Dy3+ has been widely adopted to explain afterglow many Eu2+ and Dy3+ codoped aluminates silicates. The involves the thermally activated release a hole from its excited 5d state valence band which is subsequently trapped by Dy3+. In this work location lanthanide energy levels relative conduction various compounds presented. It shown cannot be correct. An alternative model ionization electron states subsequent trapping proposed. level schemes are consistent, both qualitatively quantitatively, with observations regarding luminescence. They also provide insight into thermal quenching 5d-4f emission.
