Brain Structural Abnormalities in a Group of Never-Medicated Patients With Long-Term Schizophrenia

摘要: Objective:This study investigated brain morphometry in chronically ill but never-medicated schizophrenia patients and whether the relation of age to morphometric abnormalities differed from that healthy subjects.Method:In a cross-sectional design, high-resolution T1-weighted images were acquired 25 with untreated chronic illness lasting 5 47 years 33 matched comparison subjects. Cortical thickness gray matter volume compared two groups. In regions significant group differences, nonlinear modeling age-related effects was used test for accelerated decline patients.Results:Schizophrenia had less cortical bilateral ventromedial prefrontal cortices, left superior temporal gyrus, right pars triangularis, relative subjects, greater parietal lobe.
