Ionic liquid induced spontaneous symmetry breaking: emergence of predominant handedness during the self-assembly of tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin (TPPS) with achiral ionic liquid

摘要: The self-assembly and supramolecular chirality of a dianionic tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl) porphyrin (TPPS) in the presence ionic liquids, 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (alkyl = C2, C4 or C6, abbreviated as C2mimBF4, C4mimBF4 C6mimBF4, respectively), have been investigated. It has confirmed that mimBF4 liquids significantly promoted J-aggregation TPPS alkyl chain length imidazolium cation was closely related to aggregation, inducing ability which decreased order C6 side chain. Interestingly, formed assemblies with showed although both are achiral. found TPPS/IL system always appeared after formation J aggregate. dynamic process emergence handedness initial achiral monitored by time-dependent CD spectra. A mechanism for transformation conventional J-aggregate chiral proposed. work will lead deeper understanding symmetry breaking system.
