摘要: Radiometric, mineralogical and compositional analyses of a sediment core from the continental shelf region off Bombay coast are reported. The 210Pb excess method yielded accumulation rate 2.5mm/yr which is in agreement with rates observed elsewhere for sediments. Mineralogically clays largely composed smectite ( 60%). Chlorite kaolinite very minor amounts 7%). Illite concentration variable increases increasing age. This related to periodic fluctuations illitic rich materials derived Indus river being washed southwards on regions. Elemental certain major trace metals (Al, Fe, Mn, Cu, Cr, Zn, Ni, Co, Pb) show that there no regular pattern distribution these elements depth. Metal/Al ratios vary within factor 2 during past 300 years
