Internal Waves in the Clyde Sea

摘要: Temperature measurements were made with 15 s and 1 min sampling intervals in the thermocline of Clyde Sea to assess variability associated internal waves on time scales from hours. The data collected during shallow water acoustics experiments which took place near Troon summer 1997. reveal clear evidence wave activity was also apparent a sequence rapid CTD yo-yo profiles. Intermittent high frequency events displayed period about 10 min, is comparable local buoyancy period. Vertical amplitudes 3 m observed, corresponding sound speed fluctuations ±2 s−1. displacement spectra calculated temperature suggest that observed energy levels did not differ significantly generic Garrett Munk deep spectrum. A stochastic model, based spectrum, used calculate dynamically consistent fields estimates acoustic derived. Three numerical schemes simulate vertical advection density field: an Eulerian method, Lagrangian time-varying mode method. linear dynamics, performed as well more sophisticated techniques good agreement obtained between simulated channel. observations activity, hence variability, phase locked surface tide.
