摘要: The propanediol utilization (pdu) operon of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium LT2 contains genes needed for the coenzyme B(12)-dependent catabolism 1,2-propanediol. Here completed DNA sequence pdu is presented. Analyses previously unpublished substantiated previous studies indicating that was acquired by horizontal gene transfer and allowed identification 16 hypothetical genes. This brings total number in to 21 at locus 23. Of these, six encode proteins unknown function are not closely related sequences known found GenBank. Two involved transport regulation. Six probably enzymes pathway 1,2-propanediol degradation. those used reactivation adenosylcobalamin (AdoCbl)-dependent diol dehydratase. Five formation polyhedral organelles as carboxysomes, two appear distantly carboxysome formation. In addition, it shown S. forms bodies degradation Polyhedra formed during either aerobic or anaerobic growth on propanediol, but other carbon sources. Genetic tests demonstrate required body formation, immunoelectron microscopy shows AdoCbl-dependent dehydratase associated with these polyhedra. first evidence a enzyme body. It proposed polyhedra consist (and perhaps proteins) encased within protein shell carboxysomes. specific unusual determined, some possibilities discussed.
