摘要: Abstract Side channel construction is a common intervention to increase both flood safety and the ecological value of river. Three side channels Gameren in river Waal (The Netherlands) show amounts large aggradation. We use bed level measurements grain size samples characterize development channels. relate changes deposited sediment results hydrodynamic computations. Two three filled mainly with suspended bed-material load. In one these channels, increased enough that vegetation has grown fine load settled. third channel, shear stresses are much smaller and, addition load, settles. Based on system at Gameren, we identify two types channels: type fills predominantly from main second This gives an indication mechanisms lead aggradation artificial systems.
