摘要: One of the most critical characteristics colorectal cancer (CRC) is difference between proximal (right-sided colon cancer, RCC) and distal (left-sided LCC) disease. The recent CRC studies showed unique RCC; RCCs were more prevalent in women than men old patients, age RCC LCC was apparent women. Moreover, relatively poor protection against by colonoscopy a clearly hot issue for alarm. Thus, left right have been considered as dichotomous or even different organs view molecular, histopathological, epidemiologic clinical bases over three decades. However, evolutionary data suggesting linearity from rectum to ascending beyond simple right-left dichotomization views molecular features site-specific clinicopathological differences, support need paradigm shift continuum model rather traditional two-colon concept. This new multi-segmental hypothesis would provide both better understanding complex etiology carcinogenesis tailored preventive therapeutic strategies including individualized screening programs.
