摘要: This article details the complex natural and cultural history of red wolf (Canis rufus) restoration in American South. The decisions methods utilized wolf’s recovery after 1960 were unprecedented creative but not geographically limited. federal experiment highlights debate over what constitutes a species dynamic world, practical challenges unexpected results endangered management peopled landscapes. wildlife story illustrates only “hands-on” role humans played, continue to play, also reveals assumptions about “wild” necessity wilderness. project provides constructive lessons for future involving flora fauna on public private land, demonstrates human animal engagement making nature culture.
