摘要: Abstract Bioproductive land is one of the most significant natural resources. People use for receiving ecological services. This leads to humans using and favouring certain species, while competing with all other species. Land can create diverse cultural landscapes outstanding aesthetic, economic value, but it may equally result in degradation, soil loss impoverished ecosystems. Hence shaped by processes society–nature interaction. These detract from sustainability—in words, interaction deplete capital upon which provision ecosystem services depends. Sustainability indicators aim at monitoring key aspects order generate information needed document current state history leading up it. Moreover, they are useful communicate complex sustainability problems within scientific community, policy-makers broad public. paper introduces a special issue that seeks contribute development track We focus on variety concepts measure socio-economic metabolism. All discussed approaches relate energy material flows bioproductive area support them, above all, footprint human appropriation net primary production. In addition, this also analyses consequences intensity diversity, naturalness patterns landscapes.
