In the 2006/2007 breeding season of Cape gannets Morus capensis at Malgas Island, removal 61 fur seals Arctocephalus pusillus that preyed on gannet fledglings when they left to sea significantly reduced mortality rate these fledglings. However, because learned avoid boat used for their removal, it was not possible remove all killed and some continued. The inflicting were sub-adult males, with an average age <5 years. Sustained animals may reduce this feeding behaviour, which is present having adverse impact several threatened seabirds in Benguela ecosystem.
