Religion Democracy: Mobilizing the People God uses engaging anecdotes draws on wealth data from surveys survey experiments with clergy, citizens, legislators, to explain causes consequences Brazil's 'culture wars'. Though parties create culture war conflict established democracies, weak party system leaders instead drive divisions. Clergy leverage legislative electoral strategically promote their own theological goals help groups compete. In process, they often lead politicians congregants.
