摘要: Home care of a patient with tracheostomy after surgery for head and neck cancer requires caregivers to be comfortable handling medical equipment competent proficient completing many new complex tasks. However, the responsibility managing an artificial airway may increase caregiver anxiety, which subsequently lead improper risk complications rate readmission oncology units. This article describes development outcomes Tracheostomy Care Anxiety Relief Through Education Support (T-CARES) program, developed in response high rates patients discharged tracheostomy. T-CARES consists 18-minute video demonstration, group discussion, return skills assessment. The course also incorporates hands-on practice on low-cost anatomical task trainer created by authors. A significant reduction anxiety was noted participation program. similar programs can teach self-care variety conditions that are expected manage at home.
