摘要: Neuroprogression is a term used to describe worsening psychopathology, poor treatment response, and declining cognitive functional outcomes among patients with chronic mental disorders. Chronic inflammatory activation glutamate-mediated excitotoxicity are two key etiological factors implicated in the development of neuroprogression. In this chapter, we hypothesize that association between activation, neuroprogression, glutamate dysregulation might be mediated by glial dysfunction. The role played other mechanisms increase glutamatergic activity, including oxidative stress kynurenine pathway will also discussed, albeit briefly. We conclude providing mechanistic model draws upon our previous research, link neuroimmune/neurotransmitter disrupted local neural activity brain network connectivity eventually leading neuroprogressive course associated clinical outcomes.
