摘要: Abstract The fruit-fly Drosophila melanogaster harbours different types of ciliary structures: projections associated with neurons type I and cilium-like regions (CLRs) found during male gametogenesis. latter deserve particular attention since they are morphologically similar to vertebrate primary cilia transform into the sperm axonemes spermiogenesis. Although, all centrioles able organize CLRs, we that mother centriole docks first plasma membrane suggesting a new intrinsic functional asymmetry between parent centrioles. We also show CLRs lack Y-links connect axoneme doublets in conventional cilia. Moreover, C-tubules, lacking cilia, persisted along albeit modified longitudinal blades. Remarkably, mutant flies which devoid C-tubules or their number is reduced have incomplete axonemes. Therefore, dispensable for assembly but essential elongation maintenance Drosophila.
