摘要: OBJECTIVES. This study tests a model of intergenerational influences on childhood self-esteem that proposes paths from grandmothers9 drug problems to grandchildren9s via parents9 and parental adaptive child rearing maternal acceptance unconventionality rearing. METHODS. longitudinal uses data obtained interviews with New York City sample black Puerto Rican children ( N = 149) 1 their parents mailed questionnaires or comparable those mothers. Structural equation modeling was used test the proposed model. RESULTS. The LISREL analysis found that, 3 exceptions, all hypothesized were significant. total effects indicated strongest latent construct, finding consistent this construct9s proximal position in CONCLUSIONS. suggests mothers9 are not just near-term risks for children, but also pose long-term children9s future functioning as thereby grandchildren. relative strength indicates area should be focus therapeutic intervention efforts, addressing may have positive multiple generations.
