摘要: The use of microsatellite DNA markers in large mammal conservation genetics has been limited by the logistic difficulty obtaining optimal sources from free-ranging animals. Here, we show high amplification success elephant dung samples collected under field conditions. Amplification depended on how fresh sample was when collected, and sensitivity primers at individual loci. No significant allelic dropout observed. We also examined loci for selective neutrality, independent inheritance loci, probability identity individuals to confirm their utility studies population genetic structure.
