摘要: PURPOSE.: "Looked-but-failed-to-see" errors are a common cause of accidents, but it has never been determined whether obstructive elements within an automobile (e.g., window posts or the interior rearview mirror) have actually obstacle to vision. This work describes technique that can easily be used determine available visual field drivers at wheel and illustrates its potential in number applications. METHOD.: The involves calibrating minicamera for use as device perimetry then mounting on spectacles so lies between eyes subject who wears them. With spectacle-mounted camera worn by driver, snapshots were taken when was parked driver looked different directions, video sequences recorded during natural driving urban area winding mountain road. RESULTS.: All automobiles studied place obstacles vision any given direction gaze, although resultant scotomata sizes placed regions each combination car driver. These encroach into central turn their head required characteristics road driving, some cases resulting very poor visibility regardless good certification automobile. CONCLUSION.: Our is useful determining what parts scene visible and, hence, not only tool accident investigation ergonomics, also aid design environments.
