摘要: Aim: The clinical significance of the urinary white blood cell (U-WBC) count and serum C-reactive protein (CRP) level was evaluated in an effort to improve efficiency prostate biopsies. Methods: We enrolled 228 consecutive patients with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) ranging from 3.0 20.0 ng/mL, normal digital rectal examination findings, who underwent biopsies between January 2001 August 2004. Of these, 157 had histologically confirmed benign prostatic disease remaining 71 cancer. Patients a pretreatment U-WBC ≤3 or >3/high power field were defined as non-pyuria pyuria, respectively. also separated into two groups based on CRP prior biopsy. Several factors compared among these subgroups. Results: Inflammation detected at rates 58.1% 34.1% pyuria groups, respectively (P = 0.0014). cancer detection significantly lower than group 0.0384). did not differ according levels biopsy. Conclusion: appears be reliable indicator minute inflammation. PSA elevated asymptomatic prostatitis. Counting is simple, convenient non-invasive method that should valuable part routine urological examinations.
