In social comparison situations 4-year-old children received more, fewer, or same number rewards as an adult partner (M) who subsequently displayed various neutral behaviors donated to "poor children." Children had more than M showed significantly less imitation did in a control condition. The tendency donate exactly amount given away were affected similarly.
