摘要: Objective: To evaluate the ability of health-related quality life (HRQOL) measures to detect change over time in persons with epilepsy. Background: The application HRQOL clinical trials has been limited by a dearth information regarding their abilities measure (i.e., responsiveness). calculate responsiveness, one must categorize subjects as “changed” or “unchanged” priori criteria. Methods: authors analyzed data collected at baseline and 28-week follow-up from an antiepileptic drug trial. Two different criteria for classifying changed unchanged—one based on seizure frequency (where = attainment freedom) self-reported overall condition improvement condition)—were used. We compared responsiveness indices two generic (Short Form [SF]-36 SF-12) epilepsy-targeted (Quality Life Epilepsy [QOLIE]-89 QOLIE-31) measures. scoring procedures SF-36, classic test theory other item response (IRT), were compared. Results: Effect sizes most responsive medium large. shorter had similar those longer measure. Epilepsy-targeted consistently more than under criterion, but freedom IRT SF-36 yielded comparable Conclusion: may be preferable ones longitudinal studies. Selection does not compromise responsiveness. Item should applied
