摘要: Abstract Introduction Very little has been written on seizure management in palliative care (PC). Given this situation, and considering the forthcoming setting up of Palliative Care Unit at our neurorehabilitation centre, Clinica San Vicente, we decided to establish a series guidelines use antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) for handling seizures PC. Methods We conducted literature search PubMed identify articles, recent manuals, clinical practice PC published by most relevant scientific societies. Results Clinical are essential patients eligible PC, manage adequately, avoid unnecessary distress these their families. profile patients, recommend choosing AEDs with low interaction potential which can be administered parenteral route, preferably intravenously. Diazepam midazolam appear suitable during acute phase whereas levetiracetam, valproic acid, lacosamide recommended refractory cases long-term treatment. Conclusions These provide general recommendations that must adapted each particular case. Nevertheless, will require further well-designed randomised controlled trials including large samples draft consensus document recommending adequate, rational, effective AEDs, based high level evidence, highly complex area medical care.
