摘要: A large proportion of European biodiversity today depends on habitat provided by low-intensity farming practices, yet this resource is declining as agriculture intensifies. Within the Union, particularly central and eastern new member states have retained relatively areas species-rich farmland, but despite increased investment in nature conservation here recent years, farmland trends appear to be worsening. Although high value Central Eastern has long been reported, amount research international literature focused region remains comparatively tiny, measures within EU Common Agricultural Policy are poorly adapted support it. In opinion study, we argue that, 10 years after accession first states, continued under-representation Europe policy impeding development sound, evidence-based interventions. The benefits for existing should harnessed before they lost. Instead waiting further decline, targeted monitoring create locally appropriate strategies these habitats needed now.
