摘要: Background: The current study is a prospective randomized clinical trial to determine the effect of interferon alpha-2a on eyes with subfoveal subretinal neovascularization secondary age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Methods: Twenty 19 patients AMD were prospectively evaluated. Ten subcutaneous (3 million units/m 2 ) every other day for 8 weeks, whereas 10 observation alone as controls. Fluorescein angiography, best-corrected visual acuity tests, and field assessments performed, all followed minimum 6 months. Results: At 2-month follow-up visit, group manifested somewhat slower neovascular growth than controls, but results not statistically significant. 6-month there was no difference in acuity, average sensitivities, or extent neovascularization. rate progression significantly related previous photocoagulation both groups. Conclusion: Though slowed during second month treatment, did persist once discontinued. No long-term benefit appeared be present. Unfortunately, lengthening time administration, increasing dosage, frequency administration would likely give rise unacceptable side effects.
