摘要: THE water in most of the Panama Canal is fresh with no measurable salinity (Fig. 1). Because this, intermingling Atlantic and Pacific marine fauna, after projected United States sea level canal completed, a subject speculation interest1. The towing an assortment animals through limited in-transit mortality as result low suggests that there continued gene flow among fouling on either side canal. This experiment does not suggest freshwater barrier to intertidal non-sessile organisms their normal mode transport by larvae or adult movements. For these it probably effective quite unlike situation at Suez where migrations are commonly recorded2. But for typical organisms, such barnacles like, conservative estimate transported between each ocean ship traffic 252,000 kg/yr.
