摘要: More oocysts of Plasmodium yoelii developed in Anopheles stephensi if the mosquitoes received a supplement p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) their diet prior to taking an infective blood meal, than unsupplemented control insects. The optimum concentration was 0.05% PABA 10% sucrose. This effect not observed meal taken feeding with PABA. Similarly, administered gametocyte-carrying mice increased numbers developing fed on them subsequently, also being dose dependent, and mediated through increase gametocyte numbers. Sulphadoxine (which blocks uptake) had opposite action, reducing either when directly or donor mice. These results are compared those reported other host-parasite systems by earlier workers, certain paradoxical observations discussed reference possible relationship between sulphonamides contaminating microorganisms vector mosquitoes.
