Maternal and fetal outcome in eclamptic patients in Benin City, Nigeria.

摘要: Eclampsia is a well-recognised major cause of maternal death and perinatal morbidity mortality. The incidence eclampsia, its presentation patterns, outcomes were investigated in retrospective study conducted at the University Benin Teaching Hospital, Nigeria over an 8-year period, 1995 - 2002. There 103 cases eclampsia 7835 deliveries, giving one 76 (1.32%). mean age women was 27.1 +/- 5.6 years. significantly (P < 0.001) occurred nulliparous unbooked mothers. Eighty-nine (86.4%) patients developed fits predelivery stage; 85 (83%) had least premonitory symptom including headache (82.4%) visual disturbance (10.6%) epigastric pain (7%). nine stillbirths 16 early neonatal deaths for mortality rate 214/1000. causes prematurity birth asphyxia. Eleven with case fatality 10.7% ratio from 140/100 000. clinical cardiopulmonary failure, acute renal haemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelet count (HELLP) syndrome cerebrovascular accident. Timely referral high-risk coupled availability emergency obstetric care services would reduce associated our facility.
