摘要: Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, with a current population 14.64 million, is one fastest growing megacities world. With already over saturated density; some 300,000 to 400,000 new migrants, mostly poor, arrive at city annually from coastal and rural areas after experiencing kind environmental hardship. At present, these uprooted people constitute almost one-third city’s population. Along burden massive population, problems Dhaka City are manifold. In face additional challenges resulting changing climate increasing intensity frequency extreme climatic events; overall situation getting worse. On other hand, poor urban governance absence comprehensive policy on urbanisation have resulted in an unliveable metropolitan area acute land scarcity excessively high prices, housing, traffic congestion, water shortages, sanitation drainage, irregular electric supply, unplanned construction degradation. Now, biggest challenge explore opportunities feed ever-increasing Dhaka. Hence, particular focus food security situation, this paper has critically analysed existing policies, strategies, system practices; eventually identified loopholes that hinder promotion expansion Urban Peri-urban Agriculture (UPA). This analysis also proposed strategic directions for mainstreaming UPA policies system.
